Team building has become a "must do" in recent years. More and more companies are organizing such activities precisely because they have realized that such a program brings spectacular, long-term results for their business. If a few years ago, team building was a new, isolated concept, seen by many as something "wow", found only in large corporate organizations, today things have changed radically. Regardless of whether we are talking about a small company or a multinational with hundreds of employees, everyone has understood that it is worth investing in such programs because they are important in increasing performance, in a job market where not only the financial part motivates employees. Equally important are the environment, the working atmosphere and the team we work with.
Most of us associate the term team building with fun. Perfectly agree, but beyond the "fun" we must also see the educational side of such a concept.
Team building has the purpose of strengthening relationships between employees, facilitating communication within a team, getting them to know each other better and contributing to achieving the established objectives that implicitly bring results.
We mentioned communication above. Without a doubt, it is certainly one of the essential reasons for organizing a team building because the activities carried out involve relationships and interaction with other colleagues. In an informal setting, they feel at ease to express their ideas, to be more open and to leave aside some prejudices related to certain team members. Because, as a rule, at work, we tend to be more sober, more withdrawn, less communicative, and after such behavior we are quickly categorized by the rest of the team. Therefore, a teambuilding program, with well-established activities, helps us to communicate effectively and, undoubtedly, to get to know each other and discover some interesting things about others.
Team building helps strengthen the relationship between employees and management because it breaks down barriers. Team building activities can give you the chance to see your managers as colleagues rather than bosses, which helps improve relationships and perhaps even solve existing problems in the organization. But what's really important is that a team building activity helps you understand what it means to be part of a team.
An activity of this type helps to discover the potential of candidates about whom you did not know much even though they had been in the organization for some time. Because yes, a teambuilding helps you discover your colleagues by exposing them to new experiences that force them to react outside of the daily routine. Working with other team members can generate new, creative ideas that they can implement in the workplace. Therefore, it is very important that a teambuilding is well thought out with activities that aim to reveal the qualities and flaws of each participant, their attitude, way of thinking and skills in certain situations.
How do you know if a team building has achieved its goal? The results are not visible the day after we return to the office, but over time. Since the goal is for people to get to know each other better,to change their behavior, to be more efficient, then the success of such a program is observed over time, through the way the relationships between team members evolve, the atmosphere at the workplace, and the degree of achievement of the proposed objectives.
